Sclerotherapy:
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to eliminate varicose veins and spider veins. It involves an injection of a solution, such as Asclera™, directly into the vein irritating the interior walls of the vein, causing them to constrict and close. This prevents the flow of blood through the affected vein and can effectively eliminate the swelling, bulging, discomfort and discoloration, which may be caused by small varicose veins or spider veins.
What is Asclera™?
Asclera™, or Polidocanol, is an injectable agent used to help treat varicose veins and spider veins which is currently being used in Europe and elsewhere, and received FDA approval for use in the United States in 2010
What are varicose veins?
Varicose veins are large blue, dark purple veins. They protrude from the skin and many times they have a cord-like appearance and may twist or bulge. Varicose veins are found most frequently on the legs.
What are spider veins?
Spider veins are very small and very fine red or blue veins. They are closer to the surface of the skin than varicose veins. They can look like a thin red line, tree branches or spider webs. Spider veins can be found on the legs and may cover a small or large area.
